Constructed in the same year as the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976 and inaugurated on August 26th, the Carrefour de la Pointe was comprised of many large retail chain stores such as Zellers, Reitmans and SAQ, as well as seven small boutiques which included Bijouterie Dancosst. A real sense of family spirit reigned in the mall.

The Carrefour had great success in its first years of existence and was even built to become one of the major shopping malls in the East End of Montreal. In 1981, the recession hit the retail market and the Carrefour was bought by two companies, First City and ABRIM. Expansion plans were abandoned and the centre was finally defined to serve the local population. The Carrefour later became the property of ABRIM and SITQ in 1990, then later bought by Ivanhoe Cambridge and finally by Creccal Investments Ltd. in November 2004.

At the end of 1991, a major renovation plan went underway, the common areas were expanded and the locals were renovated. An investment of 1.7 million dollars. Everything necessary was done to give more comfort and to create a welcoming feeling to the mall. Sky domes were installed and store fronts were widened. The Carrefour underwent a makeover to the great pleasure of the tenants and customers. In 1992, their 15th anniversary was celebrated which coincided with the major renovation work.

The total rental space attained 182 000 sq2. The two major stores, Walmart and Super C, calculated up to 20 000 transactions per week. All stores implicated, 35 000 transactions were accomplished weekly. Amongst the stores present in the beginning, you could find Loto Québec, Pik Nik, Paris Coiffure, National Bank, Royal Bank and Bijouterie Lavigueur. Service type businesses also occupied an important place at the Carrefour: cleaners, hair salon, post office, restaurants, electronics, health care, etc… A tendency that developed to follow the vocation of serving the local community. In fact, a large amount of our customers are from the local population. They are certain to find almost all services under one roof.

As the years went by, a tight link with the local vocation has evolved. The Carrefour has developed community activities and applied a certain privilege to the local organizations. You will regularly find regular activities, exhibitions, or varied entertainment.

The Carrefour continues to offer promotional activities, in conjunction with local groups. In 2011 the Carrefour will celebrate its 35th Anniversary. The Carrefour de la Pointe continues to evolve and progress to offer its customers the best possible shopping experience.
